January can bring with it a mix of emotions from feeling the need to hibernate due to the cold and grey weather, to feeling refreshed and re-inspired after the festive break.
This January is very definitely a blend of the two and I thank my lucky stars that I am fortunate to be able to run my own art business and build projects around life admin and opportunities to rest.
In October, my daughter bought me The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. Working through the weekly tasks and of course the daily Morning pages, journaling everything that pops into my head, has really helped me not to feel guilty for taking moments of reflection, time out to hibernate and take stock and on the surface of things appear to not be doing very much. Because if we take a look under the surface of the creative mind we know that there is oh so much productivity that comes from reflection.
Entire paintings can be planned in moments of deep thought, ideas and inspiration for new projects are dreamed up, and of course reflection on where to shift your focus and which tasks will help your boat to move faster in the right direction towards your goals is frankly essential.
Look after your mind, body and soul and the rest will take care of itself.
